Leuk Castle: towering, rich in culture

Leuk Castle was an important place where treaty negotiations and great meetings took place.

Restored by star architect Mario Botta, the castle becomes an interface between the past and the future, a place for creative exchange and inspiration, and a starting point for education / art, tourism, leisure / meeting, information and communication. A place that challenges and stimulates the senses and the soul.

History

Early Romanesque tower (11-13 c.) with attached dwelling and curtain wall. First mentioned in documents in 1254. Burned down around 1415 together with the town hall. Restored in 1475 and transformed into the summer residence of the bishops under Bishop Supersaxo.
In 1507, the Bishop of Sion - later Cardinal Matthew Schiner - and the Duke of Savoy signed the peace treaty between Valais and Savoy here.
In the 17th century also the scene of witch trials.
